Why Aluminum Foil Is glossy on One Side?
The reason one side of aluminum foil is glossy and the other side is matte is mainly due to differences in the manufacturing process and surface treatment.
Aluminum foil is processed from aluminum materials through processes such as rolling and stretching, the aluminum material is gradually thinned, ultimately forming a thin layer of aluminum foil. During the rolling process, both sides of the aluminum foil will be subjected to varying degrees of pressure and friction, resulting in differences in the surface structure of both sides. Generally speaking, the specially treated side will be smoother, which can better reflect light and present a bright luster.
In addition, the two sides of aluminum foil may also differ during the manufacturing process. In order to prevent breakage during the production process, manufacturers usually use two layers of aluminum foil to press at the same time. The side in contact with each other forms a matte surface due to friction, while the other side directly contacts the machine to form a smooth surface.
The reflectivity of the glossy surface is 88%, while the reflectivity of the matte surface is 80%. However, the heating time for food on both sides is almost the same, and the glossy surface is more likely to stick to food. Therefore, it is recommended to use the matte surface to come into contact with food.
